Agilityfaad

AGILITY 1
FOUNDATION SKILLS, OBSTACLE FAMILIARIZATION

Start off right in our Agility 1 class. Topics include how dogs learn, motivation, foundation skills, and safely introducing the dogs to all of the agility equipment except full-sized contacts. This class is where dogs and handlers learn just how fun agility can be. Enjoy watching your relationship become stronger and closer while laying the foundation for future success. A sit, down, and beginning stay are helpful for this class but are not required. Routine behavioral issues are also addressed if necessary. Aggressive/reactive dogs will be asked to address these issues in private lessons before being allowed to begin the class. This class consists of two 4-week sessions.

AGILITY 2
ADVANCED FOUNDATION, OBSTACLE PERFORMANCE

The Agility 2 class continues to build upon the skills learned in Agility 1. Dogs and handlers learn the basic handling maneuvers and more advanced foundation skills. Emphasis is placed on the correct performance of the obstacles and on keeping agility fun for both the dog and the handler. Further training is done to prepare the dogs for safe, consistent, and fast contact performance. Graduation from Agility 2 is based on mastering advanced foundation behaviors and the skills required to fluently and correctly sequence several obstacles.

AGILITY 3
HANDLING, SEQUENCING, PATTERNS, AND OBSTACLE FLUENCY

Agility 3 takes basic handling one step further and solidifies correct and confident obstacle performance. Handlers will teach their dogs how to recognize common patterns on course and how to work away from the handler when necessary. Handlers will also “learn how to dance” and become skilled at performing the various crosses. This class provides the basic agility tools that should be in every competitor’s toolbox. Graduation to Agility 4 is dependent upon a solid understanding of contact performance, the ability to perform upright weave poles, and the mastery of more advanced handling skills.

AGILITY 4
ADVANCED HANDLING, SEQUENCING, CROSSES, READING THE LINES

Agility 4 is where teams bring together all of the skills learned in earlier classes in preparation for competition. Handlers will be taught how to “read” a course and determine the best handling path. Pattern recognition will be strengthened and obstacle discrimination will be mastered. Teams will practice using distance, handling more difficult sequences, and sequencing more obstacles. Emphasis remains on keeping agility fun and maintaining drive and motivation. Teams will graduate from this level ready to begin trialing.

AGILITY 5
COMPETITION LEVEL

The Agility 5 class is for teams who are competing or are ready to compete. This class helps the team be more consistent, faster, and smarter about running courses. Topics include getting tight turns, speedy and consistent contacts, improving weave pole performance, and perfecting many other skills that create a winning team. Teams at this level will be exposed to both sequences and full courses from the venues supported in Colorado (AKC, USDAA, NADAC, and DOCNA).

K9 Nose Workfaad

Welcome to the world of incredible K9 Noses!

You have all seen the wonderful work that dogs do with their noses. Border patrol dogs, bomb sniffing dogs, tracking dogs, even our seizure alert and peanut alert dogs use their noses for their jobs.

Now our family dogs can have fun using their noses! Introducing the new sport of “K9 Nose Work”. This “just for fun” sport gives your dogs natural hunting and sniffing instincts a fun outlet that you can do anywhere! Requires no hard set up, no expensive equipment, no big space requirements, just you, your dog and their favorite food or toy. And the most exciting part is that this is a sport that your dog already knows how to do! All you have to do it let him do it!

What is K9 Nose Work

K9 Nose Work is a relatively new sport that uses a dogs natural hunting abilities to find a specific scent (on cue), and then indicate to their handler that they have found it.

What kind of dogs can do K9 Nose Work

Any dog can do nose work! That’s the fantastic thing about this. Short dogs, tall dogs, big dogs, small dogs, any dog with a nose can do this! Even dogs that could not previously attend a class or group environment can do this.

This is also a great outlet for those dogs that are not able to play other sports due to physical limitation. There is no jumping or running required, go at your own pace.

Its a great outlet for dogs that are aggressive, shy or fearful. K9 Nose Work is designed to allow all dogs to play. Only one dog on the floor at a time, so each dog and handler can have a “safe” stress free zone to play in.

*All dogs must be able to be safely and quietly crated while they wait their turn. They can crate in the building next to you or they can wait comfortably in the car (when the weather is appropriate).

Where Do I Start?

The first step is introduction to K9 Nose Work; where we will teach you how to fun just letting your dog do what he does naturally. Then, you will move onto the Introduction to Odor; where we will introduce the odor that your dog will be asked to hunt out. We will continue to build on the previously learned skilled and you will be able to continue to advance in “Advanced Nose Work” classes.

And for all of you “competition” loving individual, that would like to challenge yourself against others, there are even K9 Nose Work Competitions!
