2008 April 16 Rush Injury
What an exciting day! Rush wasnt acting right, seemed like she was having a difficult time getting up or down and she seemed ouchey around her tummy. I got her right into the vet who took an xray and ruled out hips or back. They said they felt she had an obstruction and they should do emergency exploratory surgery. I had her to the vet by 12:00 - they had her in surgery by 1:30 and I had her home by 4:30. What a whirl wind that was! They found a teeny, tiny piece of purple plastic, with rough edges all around in her intestine. It was so ragged that it couldnt pass through. The piece was the size of my pinky fingernail but it caused her intestines to fold like an organ (sp). They said that the suture in the intestine was very small so that was good - what they failed to tell me was that the suture in her belly was HUGE!!!! I almost passed out! But they were pretty pink sutures, does that make it better? Ive attached some photos (not for the faint of stomach),. They told me to keep Rush quiet for a couple weeks…. I only succeeded in keeping her quiet for a couple hours. Bad mom. What can you do? I certainly crated her as long as I could, but she cant live in a crate! I told everyone that if they felt they could do a better job keeping her quiet they were welcome to her! NO TAKERS! What a surprise. Anyway, she made it through. After 10 days I laid her on her back and took all the stitches out (16 or more I think). She never blinked an eye or moved - didnt even have to ask hubby to hold her. I was so proud of her.
Rush may be a wild girl (you can tell from previous posts), but she is darn well-behaved. I love this dog.
