2009 March 20 - Training Update

We have been working weaves so much I think Rush was getting a little tired of it.  Well, I would too… so we started working our jumps again.  We are only working wrapping and turning and rewarding with a throw.  Her turns are awesome.  The last time I tried a figure-8 on a single bar she would only wrap one side, the second side she would miss the jump - she would wrap, but it did not include the jump.  Too funny.  But like I said I think she studies when we are not working.  Today we attempted the figure-8 again and she got it with no problem :)  And it was with speed and tightness!  Good girl.  I also tried the figure-8 on two jumps and a throw, again dead on!  Not a problem for her  :)   Her leg still bothers her but it absolutely does not stop her and her muscle tone is coming back.

2009 March 20 - Weaves Day 6

Back on track  :)  Rush found her head last night in our second session as well as this mornings session.  I started with the off-side this time and had 100% success.  When we went to the on-side we had the same issue of skipping the first set.  I then lessened the angle that I was sending from (where she was SMACK in front of the first set and she STILL missed.  What the ????  OH!  so I remember what my husband had said about dont forget to reward the first set sometimes.  Since I had no opportunity to do that previously due to missys speed I worked that - sent her in the first set and threw really, really fast.  lol  That was the issue I believe as she started looking for the first set again.  I did not try for both sets again, we will do that tomorrow.

I will take photos tomorrow of the angles that I am sending from.

2009 March 19 - Weaves Day 5

Okay, I didnt play with her before the lesson but it didnt really help.  In her defense I can see it the way she sees it - she keeps missing the first 2 and goes beautifully into the second every time.  However, the exercise does consist of the 2 2×2s, not 1.  She does beautifully if I am anywhere on the offside, but I can guarantee a miss on the onside.  She was a little distracted again this morning but she was alot more excited last night seeing me in classd and when I got back in the house.  I am starting to see more and more of the “wild” girl.

2009 March 18 - Weaves Day 4

Lesson learned…. do not take the “friends” out with Rush and play BEFORE you have done your lesson for the morning!!!!  So said “what weaves?”, “what poles?”, “Are you sure we have done these before because I just cant place it”.    UUUUGGGHHH … thats what I get for 3 great training days in a row.

So back to 8/2 - 2  2×2s 6′ apart.

2009 March 17 - Weaves Day 3

This morning we moved the weaves from 2/8 to 1/7* - 6′ apart.  We worked the arc for a tug toy then switched to a ball for higher drive.  I will always start with the tug because this allows me to interact with her - tug a little play a little then work a little.  With the ball it brings out more drive in her but does not allow me the interaction time that I feel is so important with Rush.  She is still coming into her personality now that she does not hurt so I want to be a big part of what/who she thinks is important.

She was about 80% out of the gate with the new set up - she catches on really quickly.  If she misses the first set or misses the second set I say “yes” but there is no release of the toy.  She immediately comes back to me and we try again - second time she gets it - mark and throw.

* Meaning 2/8= 2 oclock/8 oclock, 1/7= 1 oclock/7 oclock

2009 March 16 - Weaves Day 2

We set the weaves straight up and ran through… with 100% success.  I then twisted them slightly and worked again- working the arc left and right - we were at 99%.  The only one she missed was the one where her mom set her on the wrong side and gave her an extremely advanced move.  :)  I quickly fixed that of course and tried again.  I plan to video tomorrows work out and maybe try two sets. ???

2009 March - Weaves Day 1

I have decided to start Rush on the two-by-two method.  We are just running through the weaves and rewarding.  She is at 100% inside with one set

2009 March 16 - Rush In Kansas

We went to Kansas this past weekend to run some agility.  Rush went for the experience.  :0   Although she still doesnt like to ride (we still have to cover the windows with towels), she did a wonderful job.  There was even a time at one of our stops where this huge semi-truck came right by us (5′) and she just looked at it.  When I first started taking her she would head for the hills when any car went by at 50′ away!

While we were there at the show grounds we were able to play ball with other dogs and people going by - even two skateboarders… Rush did not go after ANY dogs!  Yeah!!!! Progress.  This is my little girl that I thought would always be aggressive.  She is really good in her crate, doesnt bark or whine or carry on and for the last 3 shows she has not snipped at any dogs.  :)
